Reading this was cathartic. Thank you for writing it.

I am not Jewish and only discovered JVP at the beginning of the year when a couple of friends started reposting their posts and then one of them spent time with the group at a university encampment. I am curious who finances this group? Over the course of this year it feels like an organization that is being used to make non-Jewish pro Palestine supporters feel like they can say whatever because this group of Jews stand with them. 🤔

You are absolutely right that JVP chapters have been started to give cover to pro-Hamas organizations. JVP allows non-Jews to be members, and has often had overlap in leadership with local chapters of SJP (Students for Justice in Palestine). Both organizations were founded at UC Berkeley.

I don't have the article at hand, but JVP has received funding from a lot of civil society-building foundations. That word "Peace" is doing a lot of heavy lifting (and deception). I call them "Jew-ish Voice for Palestine."

JVP is truly awful, a deeply antisemitic organization. But they are smart when it comes to marketing their message. They know that most reporters, journalists, and editors are too lazy to dig deep into what JVP is selling. They know “alternative” news outlets like The Chicago Reader are their willful mouthpieces and strong allies. They know that “progressive” groups will look the other way rather than look inward and change any element of the “evil empire Israel and poor paradise Palestine” narrative. They know subtly veiled antisemitism will be taken as truth. They know that antisemitism with no veil at all will be taken as truth. They know that they will be embraced when they claim they speak “as a Jew.” They know that the mantra “anti Zionism is not antisemitism” is a rhetorical dodge for antisemitism that is covertly spread under the cloak of anti Zionism. They know that the word “Zionist” is a new slur against Jews that effectively replaces the old slurs. They know that antisemitism is the history of the world and they fully embrace that hatred.

My admiration for you is boundless in the fight to expose JVP for what they REALLY are all about.

Thank you for your wise words and service to the Jewish people, Amelia. Thank you for preserving the memories of our ancestors and Emma Lazarus. The dishonor that JVP does to the memories of our ancestors, the Jewish people and especially those killed for being Jewish is disgusting and I thank you for not only calling this out, but also highlighting how JVP endangers every living Jew. They and their supporters and enablers should not be welcome in Jewish spaces.

Great article. And I will never understand this phenomenon of Jews with suicidal tendencies. Sure, during the holocaust we had the kapo, but many of them were trying to survive or save their families- however twisted this was- they had a reason. The people you’re describing, who are not crazy Neturei Karta or Satmer lunatics- are a special breed of their own. And they should be purged from the Jewish community.

Agreed. Kapos were in a situation most of us cannot even imagine and were essentially forced into that role. But the people described in this essay are doing it voluntarily; from the safety of the West; with nothing personally at stake. It's astonishing. And not only is it suicidal, but they're endangering every other Jew in America and the world by collaborating with those whose mission in life is to exterminate us. And some of them doing this are rabbis. It's the definition of evil.

I agree 100%. And every time I’m thinking how life is challenging at the moment, I think about the people who had to deal with so much worse than this..

I’m in my mid-50s, and reasonably observant (I think); active member of a reform congregation … and I’d barely even heard of these groups or even the phenomenon of antizionist rabbis until the past nightmare year. And what little I’d heard, I had no clue how the problem has been metastasizing or the extend of their vile, terrorist-enabling behavior. Thank you for this essay. I am late to understand the scale of this problem but I can say I know many more Jews who have absolutely no idea about it.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Great job.

IDK if this is true everywhere, but in my area, the leaders of local JVP chapters are also leaders of IfNotNow.

You will note that many of the Rabbis for Ceasefire belong to the Reconstructionist movement. That movement has a listserv discussing "Rethinking the relationship between Israel and Palestine" or something like that, which is full of toxic and self-destructive rhetoric. I would like to think that some Reconstructionist rabbis are unabashed Zionists, but I don't know if this is the case. If so, they are probably very uncomfortable in their movement.

I quit my shul over the rabbi and staff's support for Islamic supremacist colonizers. JVP is suicidal. Look no further than Aaron Bushnell and the other two guys who lit themselves on fire if you want to see the logical end of this sort of allyship.

Most of these agencies are run by “boomers” who still think the black- Jewish alliances of the 60s still exist at all.

The most virulent anti Semitism of any ethnic group in the country are blacks .Time to wake up

Yes a million times over! It’s so sad the lengths that pick-me Jews will go to just to “fit in,” and then have the gall to speak for the rest of us.
